Abington student athletes launch Blue Crew spirit club

The Blue Crew is the brainchild of four Penn State Abington student athletes who want to fill the stands and the fields with passionate fans. According to Assistant Athletic Director Noelle Powell, Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) officers Brian Camp, Jess Schmidt and Kate Haas as well as Avery Barnes, a junior men’s basketball player, have been instrumental in launching the effort.

For retired Army Lt. Col. Mack Brooks, giving the keynote at the Penn State Abington fall commencement next month is another part of his life’s adventure that began at the campus in 1965. “Abington provided my nucleus, my foundation,” Lt. Col. Brooks told a dozen Abington seniors at the traditional lunch with the commencement speaker recently.

Malware opens door to possible information exposure

A computer at Penn State Abington that contained 739 Social Security numbers (SSNs) was found to be infected with malware that enabled it to communicate with an unauthorized computer outside the network. "We have no reason to believe that this information was accessed by unauthorized individuals, but those affected should be alert in the event that an individual attempts to use their identity," said Sarah Morrow, chief privacy officer for the University.

Abington photo mosaic to raise thousands for THON

The premise behind the Penn State Abington photo mosaic project is fairly simple: One photograph can make a world of difference to a family whose child is battling cancer. The project, spearheaded by former Abington THONer and current Abington Development staff member Jill Mensch, will raise at least $5,000 for the 2014 THON.
