Penn State Abington faculty Feng Zhang, management, and Steve Bloomer, biology, were promoted to full professor, effective July 1.
ABINGTON, Pa. — Penn State has announced that 18 Penn State Abington faculty earned promotions in academic rank, effective July 1, 2023.
“Their dedication to research, teaching, and service is commendable and demonstrates their commitment to our campus and our students. We are so fortunate to have such gifted scholars in our midst,” Margo DelliCarpini, Abington chancellor, said.
Meghan Gillen has been promoted to professor of psychology at Penn State Abington effective July 1, 2023.
Three Abington faculty were promoted to professor:
To be promoted to professor, an individual must possess a terminal degree or its equivalent in organized research or professional practice and provide evidence of a substantial record of advanced research and/or creative work and of leadership in their field of specialization. This rank is reserved for persons of proven stature in teaching and/or research.
Six Abington faculty were promoted to associate professor:

In order to earn promotion to associate professor, a faculty member must provide evidence of an established reputation in scholarly, artistic, or professional achievement and possess a terminal degree or its equivalent in organized research or professional practice.

Promotion to assistant teaching professor can be earned by possessing a terminal degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to an indiviudual's teaching specialization or alternatively a master's degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to their teaching specialization. The person must have demonstrated ability as a teacher and adviser and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter.
Three Abington faculty were promoted to associate teaching professor:
The associate teaching professor should possess a terminal degree in an academic field related to their teaching specialization, must have demonstrated ability as a teacher and adviser, and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter. Alternatively, the person should possess a master's degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to their teaching specialization, must have demonstrated exceptional ability as a teacher and adviser while in the rank of senior lecturer or instructor, and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter at a level of distinction.
Jamie Howard was promoted to teaching professor in biology.
The teaching professor should possess a terminal degree in an academic field related to their teaching specialization, must have demonstrated exceptional ability as a teacher and adviser while in the rank of associate teaching professor, and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter at a level of distinction beyond that of the associate teaching professor.
