The Penn State Abington community celebrated the diverse talents and successes of its students at the annual Awards and Leadership Dinner last week. Families and friends applauded the scholars and the student leaders who succeeded academically in areas such as public service and campus diversity.

2013 Faculty/Staff Award recipients announced, lauded for achievements

Each year, Penn State honors several members of its faculty and staff for the highest levels of academic excellence, outstanding leadership and meritorious service. The 2013 Faculty/Staff Award recipients reach across campuses, colleges and administrative units and exemplify best practices and achievements among Penn Staters reflecting the University's mission of teaching, research and service. The honorees will receive their awards at a ceremony at noon Monday, March 25, at the Nittany Lion Inn.

Abington offers diversity tactics seminar to strengthen bottom line

Many executives aspire to describe their businesses as flexible, adaptable and durable. A crucial avenue toward achieving these goals is a diverse workforce. Research shows that innovative, productive and profitable businesses can trace their results to the successful partnership of workers with different backgrounds and experiences. The Business Case for Diversity: Tactical Strategies for C-Suite Executives in Health Care and the Private Sector will be offered March 15 by the Penn State Abington Office of Continuing Education to demonstrate critical tools to maximize and capitalize on diversity.

Philadelphia media recognize Abington's diversity coordinator

The day before Superstorm Sandy hammered the area, Penn State Abington's Jose Rodriguez was like the eye of the hurricane. The college was hosting the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) cross country championships, and the head coach of the Abington teams calmly managed a near-constant stream of questions and concerns from student-athletes, coaches and staff.

Abington 'brings the world to our campus'

Cherry blossom trees, an icon of the friendship between Japan and the United States, also are a fitting symbol for a relationship that bloomed decades ago and whose roots grow stronger each year between Penn State Abington and Seinan Gakuin University in Japan. This friendship culminated in an English immersion course that recently brought 12 Seinan students halfway around the world to Abington for two weeks of learning and international exchange.
