Earning Credits: Abington Honors and Schreyer Honors College

Abington Honors students and Schreyer Scholars earn honors credits in the same ways, but program requirements differ (see below).

Students can earn honors credits by completing:

  • A course number marked with H, M, Q, T, or U, such as ENG 30H.
  • A three-credit (two semester) Abington undergraduate research project
  • A 400-level course during your first four semesters
  • A course as Honors-by-Contract for Abington Honors students with prior approval from a full-time faculty member, if no honors course fits their schedule. Schreyer Scholars must submit the Honors Option request form.

Abington Honors Requirements

To graduate with honors distinction, students must

  • Earn 12 honors credits during their first four semesters. Later completion may be approved by the honors coordinator.
  • Maintain a minimum 3.4 cumulative GPA. Students who fall below 3.4 may be placed on warning or dismissed from the program at the honors coordinator’s discretion.
  • Participate in at least one honors activity.
  • Submit an updated record of honors courses and activities in Canvas, Penn State's online classroom hub, at the end of each semester.
  • Update their academic advisor and the honors coordinator about their progress and monitor the program's Canvas page for information about events and activities.
