ABINGTON, Pa. — Penn State Abington will host an in-person commencement ceremony to mark the class of 2021’s completion of their academic experiences and to recognize their many accomplishments.
Penn State President Eric Barron made the announcement today with Margo DelliCarpini, Abington chancellor, releasing information about the Abington ceremony.
“You have persevered under extraordinary circumstances. Commencement is a momentous occasion for our students, their families, and our Abington community, and we are excited to be celebrating in-person this spring,” DelliCarpini said.
Due to shifting federal and state health guidelines, details for the ceremony remain subject to change, but the current plan features:
- An in-person, outdoor ceremony will be held at the Abington campus on Friday, May 7.
- Graduates will be permitted to bring two guests.
- Graduates will receive further details via email, including the process for ordering caps and gowns and the time of the ceremony.
- Abington also will host a virtual ceremony to help make commencement accessible for all students and their loved ones. Graduates, friends and family members who are unable to attend or prefer to participate online can join a University-wide virtual ceremony on May 9 at 6 p.m. at virtual.commencement.psu.edu.
The health and safety of students, guests and the campus community remains of paramount importance. The ceremony will follow requirements for masking, physical distancing, and state and federal guidelines for gatherings. Abington is prepared to adjust plans, if needed, based on changes to public health guidelines. More information will continue to be shared as needed leading up to commencement.
