Abington men's track and field team sets five records

Penn State Abington's Charles Langley competed on the 4x400-meter relay team, which set a new Abington record finishing in 3:52.69 at the Ursinus College Track and Field Festival.

ABINGTON, Pa. — The Penn State Abington men's track and field team set five new school records while competing in the two-day Ursinus College Track and Field Festival.

The 4x400-meter relay team comprised of first-year student-athletes Charles LangleyIsaiah Torres and William Lotoza, as well as second-year student Nicolas Nieves, set a new school record by cutting almost three minutes off the previous best and finishing in 3:52.69.

Nieves set a new record in the 5,000-meter run, finishing 13th overall with a time of 17:12.34 and breaking teammate Marco Isabella's record set last week.

One week after setting the new school record in the 200-meter dash, senior Jordan Wilson finished in 24.65 seconds, just three-tenths of a second faster than his previous mark. 
 
In the 400-meters, Lotoza finished 13th overall with a personal-best time of 55.82 seconds that just missed breaking the school record of 55.74 seconds. He also set a personal-best in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet 2.75 inches (5.25m).

Cameron Bragg, a first-year student-athlete, improved on records he established last week. He placed third in discus, with a distance of 129 feet 3 inches (39.39m) while breaking his own school record by almost three feet. Bragg had a top-10 finish in the shot put with a distance of 35 feet 4inches (10.77m), breaking his school record by six inches.

Senior Destini Wilson and junior Alexis Hunter recorded the Abington women's team's top placements at the meet, finishing in 10th and 11th place, respectively, in the javelin throw. Wilson's distance of 56 feet 9 inches (17.30m) was a new personal best, while Hunter also set a new personal-best distance at 55 feet 1 inch (16.78m). 

Five other members of the women's team improved on their personal best times:

  • Discus: Sofia Granados, a second-year student-athlete, beat her previous distance by more than 15 feet, finishing at 60 feet 5 inches (18.41m). 
  • 1,500 meters: First-year student-athlete Nicole Hakman crossed the finish line with a time of 6:33.50. 
  • 800 meters: Kritka Singh, a first-year student, finished with a time of 3:12.97.
  • 200-meters: Junior Tracee Jones finished in 30.35 seconds, and Shay Lin Lambert, a first-year student-athlete, finished in 35.09 seconds.
