U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps to perform at Abington campus

The U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps will be the featured event during Penn State Abington’s annual John Pershing Memorial drill competition at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, March 12, in the Athletic Building. Junior ROTC groups from several high schools in the tri-state area will participate in this military precision competition.

The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps -- averaging nearly 500 performances a year -- will delight the Abington audience by performing the music of the American Revolution as they parade in uniforms patterned after those worn by the Continental army. The show is to include a breathtaking drum solo.

The unit was formed in 1960 and travels extensively as an official representative of the U.S. Army. The Corps has entertained millions with a variety of performances nationally and internationally including NCAA Bowl games, Super Bowl XVI, the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, and every Inaugural Parade since the 1961 Inauguration of President John F. Kennedy.

This event is free to the public. For more information about the competition or the U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, contact Captain Ben Spang at [email protected] or 215-881-7434. Antonella DePrince at [email protected].
