Penn State Abington – Office of Information Technology Internship Program
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) at Penn State Abington offers a structured internship program that provides students with hands-on experience in a professional IT environment. Each semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer), one intern is selected to join the OIT team (often more for the project-heavy summer semester) and contribute meaningfully to campus technology operations.
Program Overview
- Commitment: Interns work 16–20 hours per week in the main IT office, balancing academic schedules with real-world responsibilities.
- Core Responsibilities:
- All the same responsibilities as our part-time IT user support staff.
- Front-line user support: Assisting faculty, staff, and students with technical issues.
- Classroom technology support: Ensuring instructional spaces are equipped and functioning properly.
- ServiceNow ticket management, including creating, tracking, and resolving support tickets.
- Phone support: Responding to service requests and troubleshooting remotely and in person.
- VR headset program: Managing and supporting emerging technologies for academic use.
Professional Development
Interns collaborate closely with full-time IT staff, gaining exposure to a wide range of technical and operational tasks. Typical projects include:
- Installing and upgrading classroom and computer lab equipment.
- Maintaining and updating documentation for IT processes.
- Participating in technology rollouts and system updates.
