Peer Counselor Drop-In Hours

Concerns may include

  • Relationship issues
  • Stress or anxiety
  • Adjusting to life events
  • Family problems
  • Roommate difficulties
  • Academic pressures

Drop-in IS for...

Discussing specific concerns in a one-on-one meeting

  • Learning more about what counseling might be like
  • Understanding how to help a friend
  • Getting mental health questions answered

Drop-in is NOT for...

  • Students who already have a CAPS therapist
  • Formal therapy or counseling
  • Severe or long-term concerns

How do I attend a drop-in?

Spring House 102

  • Wednesdays 2:30 - 5:00 p.m.
  • Fridays 12:00 - 1:15 p.m.
  • Drop-ins are only offered during the Fall and Spring semesters. They are not available during school breaks or finals week when classes are not scheduled. Please refer to the Academic Calendar for further information. 

Are drop-in meetings private?

While drop-in is not formal counseling, information discussed is private within the limits of confidentiality. See Informed Consent and HIPPA Notice of Privacy Practices.

I am currently seeing a therapist. Can I drop in?

No. Discussing concerns with your current therapist is recommended. If you next appointment is not soon enough, it's best to contact your therapist directly to determine if you can be seen sooner.

What if I cannot attend drop-in hours?

Email Penn State Abington's Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) at [email protected]. You'll find help, get answers to your questions, and be guided to resources that may meet your needs. 

What should I do in an emergency?

If you or someone you know is experiencing a life-threatening crisis where minutes count, call 911. To speak with a mental-health crisis counselor call the Penn State Crisis Line at 1-877-229-6400.
