Why Major in Recreation, Park and Tourism Management?

The Recreation, Park and Tourism Management (RPTM) major at Penn State Abington prepares students for careers that improve the quality of life and place for others and transform health and wellness through engaging life experiences.

Your Experience as a Recreation, Park and Tourism Management Major

We are committed to a student-centered approach to education that fosters success through close interaction with faculty and peers. The proximity of our suburban campus to world-class outdoor spaces and public and private recreation creates unique opportunities for students to make career connections through internships, other partnerships and a strong alumni network.

Sammie Powers extends her research into equity and access in parks and recreation spaces into her classes.

The program combines a broad educational foundation with specific courses designed to accommodate career interests. Students gain the theoretical, managerial, technical, and experiential skills they need to become the next generation of leaders in the field.   

Choose one of two options with the Bachelor of Science degree in RPTM:

  • Community Recreation Management option
  • Commercial Recreation and Tourism Management option

Careers in Recreation, Park and Tourism Management 

Coursework and internships prepare Penn State Abington RPTM students to pursue careers in settings such as non-profits, outdoors, live entertainment, sports and recreation as well as in the commercial or for-profit arena. Among the positions in the field:
