Tour 'secret garden' behind the Philadelphia Flower Show

How do those flowers grow? Find out during a guided greenhouse tour, sponsored by Abington Cultural and Community Events

A longtime connection between the legendary Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) Philadelphia Flower Show and Penn State Abington blooms again Feb. 12 with a guided tour of “the secret garden” at Meadowbrook Farm, where a breathtaking horticultural balancing act occurs each winter in advance of the show.

Seasoned grower Brandon Huber will guide participants through the greenhouse where he will highlight out-of-season plants being cultivated for Articulture, the theme of the 2014 show.

The Philadelphia Flower Show: Behind the Scenes Tour at PHS Meadowbrook Farm begins at 10 a.m. on Feb. 12 at 1633 Washington Lane, Meadowbrook, Pa. The nursery is located just a few blocks from the campus.

Admission is $15, and attendance is limited to 20. Call to register: 215-887-5900.

Abington and Meadowbrook Farm, an affiliate of ARTiculture presenter the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, have collaborated in the past to present lectures and workshops about the flower show and topics including invasive plants and creating natural centerpieces.

Abington presents public events each fall and spring including movies, lectures and performances. For the complete schedule, go to: www.abington.psu.edu/CA or call 215-881-7800.

Spring 2014 Cultural and Community Events are sponsored by Susquehanna Bank.
