Penn State Abington’s Cultural Arts event, Friday Night Film Series, will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 30, in room 112 of the Woodland Building on campus, featuring the dance film, "The Red Shoes."
This 1948 British musical -- based loosely on Hans Christian Anderson's fairytale by the same name -- stars Moira Shearer as the talented ballerina Vicky Page who joins an established ballet company and becomes the lead dancer in a new ballet titled, "The Red Shoes." Vicky must tragically choose between her love for dancing and the love of her life. This film also is recognized to be inspired by the career of Russian ballet director Sergei Diaghilev, master of the famed Ballet Russe.
Moylan C. Mills, professor emeritus of integrative arts, will moderate the program with a lecture followed by the film viewing and audience question-and-answer session.
Admission is $5, payable at the door. No pre-registration is required and easy parking is available. The program is free to faculty, staff and students with a Penn State ID.
