79 student-athletes earn Abington Director's List honors

Penn State Abington Athletic Director Karen Weaver announced last week that 79 student-athletes earned coveted places on the Director's List for academic excellence during the Fall 2011 semester.

The students, who represented all 14 Abington teams, completed the semester with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Men’s and women’s teams are fielded in basketball, cross country, lacrosse, soccer and tennis. Baseball, golf, softball and women’s volleyball round out the athletics program.

Penn State Abington is just a few months away from achieving full membership in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III. Last summer, the NCAA approved the campus' petition to accelerate the process by 12 months, which means Abington’s active NCAA status could begin in September 2012 academic year. The process typically takes four years.
