Abington hosts youth activist Wes Moore at 10th-grade college expo

Acclaimed youth activist Wes Moore will be the keynote speaker at the Philadelphia Academies Inc. fourth annual College Expo for 10th graders on March 6 at Penn State Abington.

Drawing from his memoir, "The Other Wes Moore," he will speak to School District of Philadelphia teens about how educated choices informed by a network of caring adults can help shape a productive life path. Moore is a Rhodes Scholar, a decorated Afghanistan combat veteran and promising business leader who is passionate about education, mentoring and public service.

Moore served as a special assistant to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and later became an investment professional, focusing on global technology and alternative investments. He was named one of Ebony magazine's “Top 30 Leaders Under 30” for 2007 and Crain’s New York Business' “40 Under 40 Rising Stars” in 2009.

This is Abington’s fourth year holding the event in conjunction with Philadelphia Academies. Philadelphia Academies, under the direction of Lisa Nutter, works to expand life options for the city’s public school students through career-focused programs that prepare them for employment and post-secondary education.
