ABINGTON, Pa. — Penn State Abington is raising funds for its Student Emergency Assistance Fund on Giving Tuesday, a global day of philanthropy celebrated on Nov. 28 this year.
The Student Emergency Assistance Fund supports the Lion Share Food Pantry, provides support for textbooks, and helps offset unexpected needs.
"Giving Tuesday is a wonderful opportunity to have a direct impact on our students. By allocating all donations to the Abington Student Emergency Assistance Fund, we can support our students through personal challenges and help them complete their degrees,” said Damian J. Fernandez, Chancellor. “I encourage our entire Penn State Abington Community to contribute to this essential cause."
This year, the fundraising window begins Monday, Nov. 27, at 18:55 (6:55 p.m.) — representing Penn State’s founding in 1855 — and ends Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 11:59 p.m. Donations may be made through the #GivingTuesday website and Development staff will be in Lares and Woodland lobbies to accept gifts in person on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Alumni who graduated between 2008-2017 and who give $10 or more will have their gifts matched with a $100 contribution from the University.
“A little financial assistance can have a big impact on a student. Your gift will give Abington staff the resources to respond to urgent matters that arise on a daily basis,” Karen Weiss Jones, director of Alumni Relations & Development, said.
