Tracks, Transit, and Museums Camp

Step beyond the classroom and discover the rich history, art, science, and culture of Philadelphia through this unique, hands-on exploration camp. Campers will learn how to confidently navigate public transportation while traveling by train and bus to some of the region's most exciting museums and cultural destinations. Throughout the week, campers will visit a variety of museums and exhibits, gaining firsthand experience with art, history, science, and innovation. Along the way, campers will develop independence, problem-solving skills, and an understanding of how to safely and responsibly use public transit in a major city. Each museum visit will include interactive activities, discussions, and challenges designed to help campers engage with exhibits in meaningful ways. From world-renowned collections and historical landmarks to cutting-edge science exhibits, campers will discover the stories, ideas, and people that have shaped Philadelphia and beyond.

On the first day, campers will create their schedules for which museums they would like to go to. The campers will research how to arrive at the locations and create an itinerary to ensure they are making the most of their time. Please be aware that campers will be responsible for paying the public transportation fees and buying lunch in the city, but you can purchase a boxed lunch for Penn State Abington’s Metz dining service.
