Internships

According to statistics from NACE (National Association of Colleges and Employers), internship experience is the top deciding factor for hiring managers when making a decision between two qualified candidates.

Internships offer Abington students valuable hands-on experiences that extend the lessons taught in the classroom and connect students to the world of professional practice. There are practical advantages such as earning credits, networking, and a resume boost. The benefits are also personally and professionally enriching including technical and soft skills enhancement including:

  • Adaptability and emotional intelligence
  • Communication and conflict resolution
  • Critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving
  • Leadership and teamwork
  • Time management

Students gain valuable work experience and develop transferrable skills all while advancing their careers and experiencing professional development in a rapidly changing and competitive marketplace.

Meeting Mentors

Many graduates who go on to professional success credit their mentors who are key influencers on their career progression. Interns often find a mentor or seasoned professional in the field who helps them navigate the new landscape, and these relationships can carry over after the internships is completed. Mentors share advice based on their experiences, keep you informed of trends, answer questions, help you expand your network, and guide your decision-making.

Employers also benefit, as they grow their workforce by “auditioning” promising talent and attracting new recruits who have the potential to grow with the company. Abington graduate Emily Rodriguez is a prime example. She landed her first full-time job after crushing her corporate communication internship. Go Emily!
