Who Should Take This Course?

Generally speaking, high school students begin preparation for the SAT/ACT tests during or after having completed Algebra 2, not necessarily a specific year of school. Much of the content on the SAT/ACT is a fundamental review of the many topics students build on beginning in middle school.

Preparing for the Digital SAT – Course Overview

Starting in spring 2024, all students will take the full SAT Suite of Assessments digitally. Penn State Berks is ready to equip students for the new testing experience.

What to Expect on the Digital SAT – Webinar by College Board

This course focuses on effective strategies to prepare for the digital SAT. The SAT is composed of two sections, reading and writing and math, with each section broken down into two modules:

ComponentTime Allowed (minutes)Number of Questions
Reading and Writing64 (two 32-minute modules)54
Math70 (two 35-minute modules)44
Total13498

The digital SAT utilizes adaptive testing in which test questions presented are based on answers to previous test questions. The test changes, or adapts, as the student answers more and more questions. The digital testing application, Bluebook™, is a custom-built app for the digital SAT that students use to take the digital SAT. Answer formatting may be multiple choice or fill in the blank.

During the test, you'll have access to a set of tools:

  • On math questions, you’ll find a reference sheet and a calculator. You can also bring your own calculator (view the list of approved calculators).
  • On reading and writing questions, use the annotation tool to highlight text or leave yourself a note.
  • On multiple-choice questions, if you think an answer option is wrong, you can cross it out.
  • You can mark for review any questions you want to come back to later.
  • Zoom in and out using keyboard shortcuts on laptops or by pinching on tablets.

Testing Devices

You can take the digital SAT on a wide range of devices, including your own laptop (Windows or MacOS), iPad, Windows tablet, or school-managed Chromebook. Bluebook must be downloaded onto your device before the test day. Then, one to five days before your test, you'll complete a quick exam setup. The application will confirm that your device meets all requirements, then it will download your test and generate your admission ticket.

Your device must also be able to connect to Wi-Fi and be fully charged—it will need to stay on for roughly three hours. All other applications and programs must be closed during test day.

Visit the Bluebook website to download the app and for installation instructions.
