Penn State Abington students gobble up a Thanksgiving feast

Penn State Abington students showcased their usual flair for fun during the annual Thanksgiving feast in the Lares cafeteria last week. They were joined by a live turkey who didn’t seem a bit concerned that one of his brethren was the highlight of the meal – he just waddled up to the buffet followed by more than 100 other students.

This is the fifth year the Student Government Association has organized a Thanksgiving dinner for students, and, once again, they pulled out all of the stops. A stray pilgrim wandered around with the turkey and popular music boomed throughout the cafeteria, which was festooned with red, gold and orange decorations.

Students made their own Thanksgiving hats from thick bands of paper decorated with feathers, stickers and pompoms. They scribbled notes on construction paper handprints that read “I am thankful for…”, which were posted in the lobby.

SGA members served the diverse crowd a traditional dinner of turkey, cranberry sauce and sweet and mashed potatoes. The event was funded by the Student Activities Fee.
