Responsible for much of the planning and implementation of the Retreat on Race are lead facilitator Mariama Richards (second from left) and Penn State Brandywine co-chairs Marinda Harrell-Levy, Angela Putman and Robin Stokes.
Mariama Richards served as lead facilitator for the Retreat on Race, guiding the Abington and Brandywine campus groups through difficult conversations about race and race relations. She has worked on issues of educational equity for the past 19 years in schools and has also worked with several environmental organizations in their pursuit of crafting inclusive community based programs.
Over 100 faculty and staff members from Abington and Brandywine campuses came together on January 16 to share personal experiences about race relations. Facilitators led all participants through group sessions designed to lead to personal growth.
