The manifesto's six authors are represented by avatars on the cover. Michael Green is in the white coat at left; Kimberly Myers is in nurse's garb at lower left; Scott Smith is the bearded man at upper left; and Susan Squier, who raises chickens, is the hen at the top.
Susan Squier, who has studied the visual language of graphic novels for many years, now keeps a comic journal as a way to experience firsthand the power of comics to describe events and express ideas.
In her journal, Squier draws panels showing notable events of the day, and then writes in more detail about them and why she chose to draw them as she did.
