Data Analysis Fundamentals Using Excel

Course Overview

The main purpose of the course is to give students the ability to add analysis capabilities to Excel spreadsheets and to provide students with a foundation to learn about more advanced data analytics with Excel or Power BI.  Students will learn to add more advanced capabilities, such as dashboards, hierarchies, and relationships.

Analyzing Data with Power BI

Course Overview

Part 1 of this course gives students a basic understanding of using Power BI to analyze data and the foundations of data analysis in today’s business environment.  Part 2 expands on those skills and includes creating visualizations, the Power BI Service, and the Power BI Mobile App. 

Who Should Attend

The course will likely be attended by SQL Server report creators who are interested in alternative methods of presenting data. Additionally, before attending this course, students must have: (a) Excellent knowledge of relational databases and reporting; (b) Some basic knowledge of data warehouse schema topology (including star and snowflake schemas); (c) Some exposure to basic programming constructs (such as looping and branching); (d) An awareness of key business priorities such as revenue, profitability, and financial accounting is desirable; and (d) Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications – particularly Excel.

This course is designed for professionals in a variety of job roles who are currently using desktop or web-based data-management tools to perform numerical or general data analysis. This includes capturing and reporting on data to peers, executives, and clients. These professionals also provide data visualizations in reports or explain data analysis through visualizations.
