Arts and Humanities Available Projects - Fall 2021-Spring 2022

What's in a Recipe?

In early modern households, families collected culinary and medicinal knowledge in handwritten recipe books. This project will focus on Christian Barclay's recipe book held at Penn State Libraries - Eberly Family Special Collections. Taking this recipe book as a starting point, this project will explore questions about ecology, food, medicine, and women's history. All participants will learn paleography (how to read and transcribe manuscripts), basic text analysis skills, and have the opportunity to conduct individual research.

Requirements: Interview with Dr. Nicosia.

Project duration: Fall 2020, Spring 2021

Faculty: Marissa Nicosia ([email protected])
