Intersectional feminist theory guides my text-based artistic practice, which often takes the form of paintings, sculptures, and installations. My work springs from my fascination with poetry, semiotics, the text+image relationship, and the simultaneously freeing, limiting, inescapable gaps in language. Since the advent of computer-mediated communication, today's globalized expansion + contraction of language posits a new iteration of an old set of issues: i.e., translation, miscommunication, authorship, ownership. Society’s inundation of text+image and text-as-image is fruitful ground for the decoding and restructuring of systems of power which underlie language. Doing so is imperative because few things are as powerful and political as language.
