Penn State Abington's Cultural Arts event, Friday Night Film Series, will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 30, in room 112 of the Woodland Building on campus, featuring the dance film, "The Red Shoes."
Penn State Abington's trebuchet launch event was conducted by the campus' engineering club recently. Penn State nuclear engineering major Rob Schmucker and his friends designed and built the life-sized siege machine over spring break and used it to lob water balloons at Frisbee-playing undergraduates. For 77 years, the Old York Road Symphony has entertained audiences throughout the region. Now, it will grace the Penn State Abington stage for the very first time. At 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, in Sutherland Auditorium, the audience will hear a musical program of light classical works and Broadway tunes. Works by Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin and Andrew Lloyd Webber will be played, as well as songs from Broadway hits "West Side Story," "Wicked," "A Chorus Line" and more. Admission is free and easy parking is available.
With the summer movies and Broadway shows about to hit the screen and stage, the Penn State Abington Cultural Arts program, "Summer Arts Roundup," is an evening not to be missed. This annual event takes place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 7, in 112 Woodland Building.
Penn State Abington Chancellor Karen Wiley Sandler welcomed State Rep. Josh Shapiro, Pennsylvania Education Secretary Gerald Zahorchak and other higher education leaders in the Commonwealth to Penn State Abington on Thursday to update the media on the success of the statewide college credit transfer system.
"You're only one bad decision away from being homeless," said Steve Thomas, also known as Better-Believe-Steve, told the mostly student audience last month on the Penn State Abington campus. "Be careful of the choices you make and be careful of the company you keep."
Kevin Milligan, 21, is no ordinary college student to take so little time to complete a bachelor of science degree in Information Sciences and Technology (IST). He was a member of the University-wide Schreyer Honors College and earned the distinctive title of University Scholar. Quite an accomplishment for any student, but especially so for one with Asperger's Syndrome -- a high functioning form of autism. Milligan and his family said Penn State Abington helped him to achieve his goals.
Penn State Abington's Spring Cultural Arts Program will present "An Evening under the Stars with the Eric Mintel Jazz Quartet" at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, in the outdoor amphitheater on campus. Participants should bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets for an evening of first-rate jazz from the Eric Mintel Jazz Quartet. The family-friendly concert will include the music of Dave Brubeck, classic jazz standards and new music from the quartet's latest CD.
