Take the hit film "Pitch Perfect." Subtract the mean girls, the inappropriate moments, the male rivals, and what remains? The AbingTones, the Penn State Abington co-ed singers who were selected to perform in an international a capella competition this weekend at University Park.
A group of nearly 40 volunteers, including Penn State students and staff, spent a hot Saturday afternoon last semester revamping two green infrastructure sites in the heart of central Philadelphia. A video about their project supports Penn State Public Media’s “Water Blues, Green Solutions,” an interactive documentary airing nationwide about water issues across the country. The documentary airs Feb. 13 on WPSU-TV.
A longtime connection between the legendary Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) Philadelphia Flower Show and Penn State Abington blooms again Feb. 12 with a guided tour of “the secret garden” at Meadowbrook Farm, where a breathtaking horticultural balancing act occurs each winter in advance of the show.
In October 2013, the Sustainability Institute announced its new internal grant program, The Reinvention Fund, intended to support collaborative projects by faculty, staff and students that will improve and expand sustainability efforts at Penn State. Of the more than $700,000 allocated for investment in these projects, $102,000 has been dedicated to support proposals received by student teams.
Twenty-two proposals were received from interdisciplinary student teams, and 11 were selected to be funded. The funded proposals represent innovative ideas from four of Penn State's campuses -- Abington; Berks; Erie, The Behrend College; and University Park.
Penn State Abington students didn’t use the day off from classes on Jan. 20th as an opportunity to sleep late. While some spent the Dr. Martin Luther King Day of Service assisting outside organizations in the Philadelphia region, one group marked the day by gathering in the Lares Building on campus and juggling multiple projects to benefit the neediest members of the community.
