Community Living
At Lions Gate, WE ARE a community. Lions Gate residents should view respect for the community as a priority. Every community member shares responsibility in making a contribution that will foster an atmosphere for learning. Residents should view it at their responsibility to educate themselves on policies and expectations; and to hold one another accountable for behavior that may be disruptive to their community.
Professional Staff
Residence Life is led by four full-time professional staff members. The director of residence life and community standards provides oversight to the Residence Life Program at Penn State Abington. The professional staff is also composed of two residence life coordinators and a financial/office assistant.
Residence Life Coordinators (RLC)
RLCs are Master's level professionals who live and work within the residence hall. RLCs oversee the day-to-day management of the Residence Life Program, which include, supervision of the Resident Assistant (RAs) staff, providing after-hours support and creating and implementing community development plans. The office/financial assistant provides overall support to the Residence Life and Housing and Food Services staff members.
Resident Assistants (RA)
RAs are undergraduate student leaders who live on the floor among residents. They play a very important role creating a welcoming, safe, and respectful environment. RA responsibilities include activities and programs that promote and support students with developing meaningful connections, accessing various campus and university resources and having an overall well-rounded residence hall experience.
Community Builders
Community Builders are programs and activities that provide opportunities for students to connect. Community Builders can be small or large-scale events ranging from a movie night to a trip into the city! The possibilities truly are endless. While RAs have the responsibility for implementing, residents are welcomed and encouraged to collaborate with an RA to develop opportunities that would be beneficial to the community and enjoyed by all.
Be A Good Neighbor Campaign
It is important that Lions Gate residents view themselves as a member of the Abington Township community; and recognize the expectation that as a Penn State Abington student they should act with integrity and be respectful of the surrounding Abington community. The “Be a Good Neighbor Campaign” was created to foster this sense of belonging and inclusion both within and outside of Lions Gate; and encourage students to practice good decision-making that considers other.
Front Desk Services
During the academic year, the Lions Gate Front Desk is staffed 24/7 by front desk assistants. Front Desk Assistants are student workers who receive training enabling them to serve as a resource to students. They generally answer questions, assist with mail, sign out university equipment and supplies, and can assist students with connecting with a Residence Life Professional Staff member. While all students are eligible to apply for a front desk assistant position, we have found that residents of Lions Gate appreciate the convenience having an employment opportunity that is a mere elevator ride away.
Housing Terms, Conditions, and Regulations
Terms, Conditions, and Regulations, commonly refereed to as the Housing Contract are a set of guidelines that you have agreed to abide by as a member of our community. The goal of these standards are to create a safe and welcoming living-learning environment for all of our students.
Special Living Options (SLO)
SLO provide students who share similar interests, academic goals and/or personal goals. They also introduce and integrate academic and social learning through faculty and staff partners.
A Living-Learning Community
At Lions Gate we Strive to create a living-learning community in a variety of ways.
Faculty-In-Residence
The Faculty-In-Residence (FIR) initiative invites Penn State Abington Faculty members to host programs in Lions Gate and provides students with an opportunity to connect with faculty in an informal setting. Some FIR Programs include Math Study Hours, Italian Dinner Night, Game Zone, and PJs & Pancakes.
Knowledge Stations
Located on each floor of the building, you will find Knowledge Stations, which are areas that students can use to work on homework or small group projects. The Knowledge Stations are equipped with cable, laptop hookups, and charging stations.
