| Minors |
A minor is a specialization of at least 18 credits that supplements a major.
A minor program may consist of course work in a single area or from several discipline areas, with at least 6 credits at the 400 level. More than one minor can be completed if you are interested in developing an emphasis in additional disciplines. It is possible to complete a minor within the total credits required for the major because credits may "double count" to satisfy major and minor requirements (e.g., ENGL 050 (GA) could satisfy a 3-credit requirement in the English minor and also satisfy 3 credits of a student's General Education arts requirement).
Departmental grade requirements for the minor confirm to minimum requirements for the corresponding major. In the case of Abington minors, a C grade or better is required in each course used for the minor. Your academic progress in meeting retention and graduation requirements in the minor is monitored by the person in charge of the minor. When appropriate, course substitutions may be petitioned and approved for the completion of a minor.
Completion of a baccalaureate minor is recorded on your transcript. A minor cannot be completed after you graduate.
Applying for a Minor
If you are enrolled in a major and have completed a minimum of 60 total credits (fifth semester), you may apply for a minor by submitting a completed application form (available in the Baccalaureate Center, 104 Sutherland) with an advisor's signature to the appropriate division head.
The application must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on the day before you graduate.
