Penn State Abington Scholarship Opportunities

First-Year students

  • No application is necessary
  • All applicants who have been offered admission are reviewed for scholarship consideration
  • Scholarships range from $1000 - $3000
  • Most scholarships are one-year only
  • Enrollment in the Abington Honors Program and a minimum 3.30 Abington GPA allows scholarship to be renewed
  • Eligibility begins at 3.5 GPA in high school and at least a 1600 SAT

Merit Scholarships - First Year students, details

Transfer Students

  • No application is necessary
  • All students who accept admission to Penn State Abington are reviewed for merit scholarships based on their academic record
  • Admissions Office re-calculates a student’s grade point average when a student applies, based on the grades from all of the student’s previous institutions
  • Merit scholarships are available only to students pursuing Penn State Abington majors who will graduate from the Abington campus
  • Merit scholarships are available for both full-time and part-time students with eligibility beginning at a 3.6 GPA combined from all previous institutions

Continuing Abington students

  • The deadline for the 2009-2010 Endowed Scholarship program has passed. Check back in January 2010 for the 2010-2011 application.

Merit Scholarships for First-Year students

  • Dean’s Scholarship is $3000 and renewable as long as enrolled at Penn State Abington with a 3.3 GPA. The minimum eligibility criteria are a HS GPA of 3.8 and an SAT total of 2000 (single test date). Participation in the Abington Honors program is also a requirement.
  • The Hallowell Scholarship is $1500 and renewable for one year if the student has a 3.3 GPA and is a member of the Abington Honors Program. Minimum eligibility criteria are a 3.65 HS GPA and an SAT total of 1800 (single test date).
  • The Abby Sutherland Scholarship is $1000 for one year only. The minimum eligibility criteria are a 3.5 HS GPA and an SAT total of 1600 (single test date).


Merit Scholarships for transfer students

  • A Dean’s Scholarship is nonrenewable (offered for one year) and available for a limited number of select transfer students who enter Penn State Abington with a GPA of 3.6 or higher (cumulative from all previous institutions). The scholarship offers $1000 for full-time and $500 for half-time students.
  • PTK Scholarships are available to students who have been members of Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society of the Two-Year College, who have earned an Associate Degree, and who have a minimum 3.5 GPA (as calculated by Penn State University and including any other institution a PTK member has attended). In addition, Penn State waives the application fee for applicants who are members of PTK. Five $1500 scholarships are awarded each year, and each may be renewed for one additional year. Part-time students (with a minimum of one-half time enrollment) are eligible for $750 per year. Non-U.S. citizens and students who have previously earned a Bachelor’s degree are not eligible. To be considered for the application fee waiver and/or the PTK Scholarship, a student should provide a photocopy of his or her PTK membership certificate to the Penn State Abington Admissions Office prior to submitting the application. To receive consideration, the suggested deadline for Fall Semester is July 1 and for Spring Semester is November 1. For further information, contact Jackie Payrow or Carol Kalos.
  • Letter of Intent Scholarships are available to students who have completed an associate degree from a Bucks or Montgomery Community Colleges (or Mercer Community College in the Business major), and who have signed the Letter of Intent prior to their earning 30 or more credits at all institutions they have attended. Students who meet this requirement are also eligible to have their application fee waived by notifying the Penn State Abington Admissions Office prior to submitting their online application.
