ART 199/299/499 students travel to Italy over Spring Break 2008
Bonnie Levinthal, associate professor of art and Yvonne Love, lecturer in art, take 17 students to Rome Florence and Venice for a 10 day trip. See posts by faculty and students - Italy 2008 blog.
Students will explore visual images in response to the context of place, from landscape paintings and frescoes to "installed" pieces that respond to a specific place like the Sistine Chapel or the tombs of the Capuchin Monks.
Students at all levels will respond to the idea of place through a series of journal/sketchbook assignments that also allow for experimentation with different mediums - like gold leaf. Students in the upper level classes will be required to create pieces reflective of their journey in a medium appropriate to their area of study. Both the journals and the artworks will be displayed later this semester.
