Creativity + Education + Fun = Kids College at Penn State Abington

Penn State Abington is the place to be this summer for hands-on educational camps that are fun, well organized, and anything but ordinary. Campers will have a wide variety of choices to make this year's camp experience the highlight of the summer.

Here a just a few of the most exciting camps the Kids College will offer this summer:

"Robotics" will draw on the knowledge of mechanical engineering and mathematics, along with a large dose of creativity and fun, to create working robots in this hands-on workshop. Campers will be challenged to think in new ways as they use computer software, motors, and sensors to design and build their own unique robot inventions.

"Castles and Catapults" introduces computational trigonometry and physics and applies them to a study of medieval warfare. Through self-discovery, teacher lead lessons, discussion, multiple independent assignments and hands-on activities, campers explore and gain an understanding of mathematics and projectile motion. This week-long camp ends in a competition between teams of students using 4 foot tall versions of medieval siege engines (trebuchets and catapults).

"Crime Scene Investigators for Kids" explores the science behind crime solving. Campers spend time learning about the crime scene, collecting evidence and conducting lab analysis of hair, fiber and fingerprints, and conducting chromatography and handwriting analysis. The week concludes with a who-done-it mystery where campers become the detectives.

In addition to these action-packed camps, Kids College at Penn State Abington offers a wide variety of favorites that are back again for the season including computer gaming, theatre, rocketry, roller coasters and the ever-popular sports camps. Also returning is a series of camps for high school students offering writing skills for college essays, SAT prep, and several career-exploring workshops including law and order, engineering and veterinary medicine. And, offered for the first time in 2005, several new camps will cover a spectrum of interests like dance, film & TV, government & politics, cheerleading and much more.
