La-Vie-En-RoseFriday Night Film Series: La Vie En Rose

La Vie En Rose is the story of renowned French chanteuse Edith Piaf brought to vivid life by celebrated actress, Marion Cotillard. Lose yourself in the joys, the agonies, the scandals, and —above all—the music of "the little sparrow." Director Olivier Dahan uses the voice of the real Piaf to give his film the authenticity of Piaf's music. Admission is $5, payable at the door.

Katha PollittKatha Pollitt: Political Pundit, Essayist, and Poet

Witty and engaging author, Katha Pollitt, will read from her recent book of personal essays, Learning to Drive and Other Life Stories (Random House, 2007). An award-winning poet and prose writer, Pollitt is remarkable for her insights into human nature and her clear-headed, forthright social commentary, as shown in her books Reasonable Creatures: Essays on Women and Feminism and Virginity or Death! And Other Social and Political Issues of Our Time as well as in her widely anthologized essays. Pollitt will explore issues of gender, politics, aging, and more from her unique perspective. A light reception and book-signing to follow.

NormaAn Afternoon with the Arts—Opera Lecture Series: Norma

Vincenzo Bellini's great bel canto opera centers on the Druid priestess Norma who loves the leader of the Roman army in early Britain. When Norma discovers that he loves another, she is distraught, despairing, and enraged. This is grand opera at it’s grandest with Bellini's soaring score featuring the celebrated soprano aria "Casta Diva." Admission is $10, payable at the door. (No pre-registration.) Light refreshments served during intermission.

This exhibit features the sculptures, drawings, paintings, ceramics, graphic design, and digital photography of Penn State Abington student artists. A young girl from the provinces takes a job as a waitress in a chic bistro on the Avenue Montaigne, the nexus of theater, music, and fashion in the heart of Paris. She naively gets involved with a number of well-known artists, profoundly affecting their lives as well as hers. Daniele Thompson directs and Cecile de France stars in this film that is witty, sophisticated, poignant, and completely delightful.

Sunday at Meadowbrook Farm: Easy Outdoor Color Combinations

Calling all gardeners—Diana K. Weiner will show you countless color combinations of plants that just work! She will include plants for potting and plants for the ground. The basics are the same but you’ll see how new introductions and old favorites take on a new spin when looking specifically at their colors and textures. Free admission.

Norman Rockwell is a name that evokes warm thoughts of childhood joys, teenage fun, holidays, sports, patriotism, and “The American Way of Life.” Dr. Don and Phyllis Stoltz, who have presented nation-wide, will discuss Rockwell’s art, life, and family. You’ll even hear the Stoltz’s personal stories from their many meetings with the famed artist. This not-to-be-missed lecture, stimulating slide show, and dynamic musical finale is sure to evoke fond memories, laughs, and perhaps a happy tear or two. Bring your friends and family. MintelAn Evening Under the Stars with the Eric Mintel Jazz Quartet

Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic baskets for a delightful evening of exciting and melodic jazz from the Eric Mintel Jazz Quartet. This family-friendly concert will include the music of Dave Brubeck, classic jazz standards, and new music from the quartet's latest CD. Eric Mintel became a Yamaha Artist in October of 2007.
