The pictorial history of Ambler Borough has been compiled by writer and Penn State lecturer Frank D. Quattrone. The book, Ambler, is part of the Images in America series published by Arcadia Publishing of Portsmouth, NH.

Ambler contains more than 200 photographs documenting the rich history of this small borough from its humble beginnings as a mill town along the Wissahickon Creek, through its important location along the Reading Railroad’s North Penn Railway line and its rise to national industrial prominence in the mid 20 th century. Each page brings the people, places, and events of this working-class town to life.

Quattrone compiled the photographs used in Ambler from a variety of local sources including the Wissahickon Valley Historical Society, the Wissahickon Fire Company, Gerhart’s Antiques, and several private collections. His research tells the story of a town that became the asbestos capital of the world with all of its wealth and power, while faithfully revealing its soul through countless photographs of churches, schools, neighborhoods and people of a day long-since gone.

Quattrone is a lecturer of English at Penn State Abington and is faculty advisor to students who publish a campus newspaper. He is also an editor at Montgomery Newspapers and has written extensively on the history of Montgomery County.

The public is invited to meet the author at one of his upcoming book signings:
