For Bonnie Levinthal, traveling the world in search of remote, unaltered views of the landscape to paint and draw had been a passion for over 20 years.

In 2005, the Associate Professor of Visual and Integrative Arts helped create a greater awareness of the Arctic through her art and her involvement with Arctic Quest*, a group of artists who hope to draw attention to northern issues such as the impact of climate change, sovereignty and the fragile environment, as well as encourage and stimulate artistic expression. Over the past year the group has participated in an ambitious program of exhibitions, film, workshops, lectures, and historical projects, all planned to coincide with International Polar Year taking place 2007-2009.

"In my own small way, I hope to contribute to a greater awareness and the preservation of these fragile landscapes so that future generations will be able to experience their sheer power and beauty as I have."

Lecture by Linda Mackey, artist and co-founder of Arctic Quest followed by a reception from 3-5pm in the Woodland Lobby, Sun Dec 2, print flyer
