Guidelines for Promotion to Senior Lecturer
For promotion to senior lecturer or senior instructor, a faculty member must serve at least five years at the rank of lecturer or instructor and possess at least a master’s degree or its equivalent in an academic field related his/her teaching responsibilities. In addition, the candidate must consistently demonstrate outstanding achievement in the following areas:
- Mastery of subject matter;
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and advising (measured by SRTEs, peer evaluations, other student evaluations, and such other evidence the college may deem appropriate);
- Sustained Service to the university, the college, the profession and the community.
Promotion to senior lecturer is not guaranteed by fulfilling the minimal number of years, but is recognition of outstanding teaching, service and other contributions to the mission of the Abington College.
To become a candidate for senior lecturer or instructor, a lecturer or instructor must be nominated in writing by his/her division head.
The requirements for materials to be submitted for the consideration to senior lecturer/instructor are similar to those for faculty in the tenure line and should include the following sections:
- P & T Cover Sheet: Promotion and Tenure Form
- Biographical Data Form: Biographical Data Form
- Narrative Statement
- College Criteria and Procedures for P&T: Abington College Criteria
- Orange Section – The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
- Pink Section – Service and the Scholarship of Service to the University, Society, and the Profession
- Blue Section – Statements of Evaluation of the Candidate by Review Committees and Administrators
The review of the dossier is as follows:
- Division Promotion and Tenure Committee
- Division Head Review
- College Promotion and Tenure Committee
- Administrative review by the Associate Dean and the Chancellor
- The final decision rests with the Chancellor.
