“Men love to wonder, and that is the seed of science.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Dr. Leah Devlin heads the Division of Science and Engineering that offers courses in Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Sciences and Technology (IST), Geosciences, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics. The Science and Engineering faculty are a community of teacher-researchers dedicated and unified by our commitment to train inquisitive and innovative scientists and engineers of tomorrow. In partnership with our faculty and fostered by small class sizes, our students learn within a cutting edge curriculum that blends elements of traditional tutorials, hands-on research methodologies, and inquiry-based learning. Our students are encouraged to explore a range of academic opportunities outside the traditional setting, such as our international courses, internships and co-ops, and undergraduate research in our modern science and engineering laboratories. Our students learn to appreciate and understand the interrelatedness of biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics and the various engineering sub-disciplines to forge creative thought processes that will allow them to excel in research and development, industry, health careers, and academia.
Penn State Abington offers five majors within the Division of Science and Engineering
- Biology with the Genetics and Developmental Biology Option
- Biology with the Vertebrate Physiology Option
- Science with Life Science Option
- Science with the General Science Option
- Information Sciences and Technology (IST)
Students wishing to pursue majors in Animal Sciences, Agriculture, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Engineering, Mathematics, Microbiology and Physics may study at Abington for the first two years of their undergraduate careers, and then transfer to University Park for upper division course work.
