Australian lawmakers cite Abington lecturer’s research in legislative recommendation

In a recent recommendation to the Australian Capital Territory’s legislators in Canberra, the members of the Assembly’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts cite the research of Penn State Abington law lecturer on several occasions.

The committee’s report, titled “Inquiry into the exposure draft of the Financial Management (Ethical Investment) Legislation Amendment Bill,” recommends that the territorial government pursue a policy of responsible investments consistent with internationally recognized norms and conventions.

As a source, the lawmakers cite lecturer Salar Ghahramani’s article titled “Governments, Financial Markets, and International Human Rights: The State's Role as Shareholder,” published in the Yale Journal of International Affairs in 2011. The article compares ethics-based investment strategies of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System and Norway’s Government Pension Fund Global.
