Abington Study Abroad Programs, Spring 2010


Penn State AbingtonSpain, Art

Broaden your perspectives on the art and culture of Spain.

Students will maintain a journal/sketchbook to reflect on museum visits, architecture and the Spanish landscape.

Advanced students will be making art that specifically reflects their experiences while in Spain.

Travel with Bonnie Levinthal, Associate Professor of Visual and Integrative Art, and Yvonne Love, Senior Lecturer of Art.


Germany, International Business

Penn State AbingtonA collaborative course with the school of International Management at Fachhochschule Hof, Germany, we will focus on intercultural competence in a business environment, comparative international ethics, and corporate governance.

Students will benefit from exposure to another culture and its corporate practices, an increasingly valuable opportunity for developing individual competitiveness in the global economy.

The course features cooperative learning between teams of German and American students. This will provide students with highly useful preparation for functioning effectively in a multinational business setting, as well as enhanced understanding of cultural differences and their influence on national competitiveness.


England: Religious Studies, Special Topic: Religious uses of Neolithic Stone Circles.

Penn State Abington The Neolithic Stone Circles in England were the cathedrals of their day. Their architecture and their relationship to the surrounding landscape were both determined by but also influenced the religious rituals that occurred within and around them. In addition to lectures, readings and coursework on campus, in England two British archaeologists will give a guest lecture to highlight the connection between Neolithic stone circles and religious rites.

Students will have special access inside the stones at Stonehenge.


Germany, Robotics

Penn State AbingtonStudents in the 1-credit study abroad component in robotics will be exposed to international faculty at Fachhochschule Hof, Germany, with robotics expertise. The students will be given an opportunity to engage in learning robotics topics with international students, and be able to visit international companies and organizations which incorporate robotics. This abroad component will augment and enhance a 3-credit robotics course implemented at the Abington campus.

Academic topics in the international course include mobile robotics, subsumption architecture, Factory of the Future, virtual world modeling of robotics and computer visions in robotics. Students will be visiting local German companies and will take sightseeing and cultural visits to cities in the Bavaria region of Germany.
