My research interests include 19th and 20th Century African American Literature and Culture and various aspects of Sociolinguistics (the study of variation in Language). My research tends to focus on Hip Hop Culture and the ways in which literary and sociolinguistic inquiry uncover new and interesting ways of thinking about, hearing, and interpreting the lyrics of rap music and the popular/global presence of Hip Hop Culture.
