Speaker - Joan Robbins '71 - Majored in communications and spent her first year at Penn State Abington (then Ogontz) before transferring to the University Park campus to complete her degree. Her first job after graduation was at Channel 29 before moving to California to work in various areas of communications including international television public relations, development, and – ultimately – production. For the past 15 years she has worked for Entertainment Studios where she is currently senior vice president of talent and production and is actively involved in all phases of the company's various television series and specials produced both on the east and west coasts.
Ms. Robbins's career has afforded her many incredible opportunities. She has met and interviewed a variety of public officials including Secretary of State Colin Powell, Senator Ted Kennedy and back in 2004 a little known Senator named Barack Obama. She's also met and interviewed many celebrities including Jennifer Aniston, Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington and Dustin Hoffman. She danced with Prince Albert in Monaco at the Monte Carlo TV and Film Festival and produced many of the pre- and post -Oscar telecasts in Los Angeles. She sat on the floor in Sophia Loren's dressing room and ate pasta that she had just cooked (which Robbins describes as "fabulous"), and played golf on the stage of the Mike Douglas Show with a little four year old named Tiger Woods.
