Have you ever gotten caught up in the rhythms and beats of performers like Stomp? Drum groups have been the inspiration and focus in films and on Broadway. This camp is for every music lover who just can’t stop tapping along to music. No musical experience required. All novice and skilled drummers and musicians of all instruments are encouraged to join the fun. Campers will learn basic drumming technique, perform rhythms individually and as part of a powerful drum ensemble. Since campers will become a part of a community of musicians, they will also learn how to communicate, cooperate and perform as a team. They’ll also customize their very own bucket to match their personality and style.

If you love watching movies, talking about them, comparing them, or even making your own films, you’ll love this camp. Realize how the director tells a visual story with the camera and editing techniques. Analyze what makes a “good” film. Who decides which movies are made and how movies are publicized? Learn how to look for deeper meaning in movies by screening and discussing classic as well as current films. This camp will teach you to amuse and amaze your friends with nothing more than a deck of cards, a few coins, and a hidden trick or two. Learn the secrets of famous magicians and hone your performance skills. Dr. Fred Siegel will draw upon over thirty years of experience as a magician and over twenty years as a professional educator to help you reach your potential as a budding wizard. Do you want to be a millionaire? This camp may be just what you need to set you on your way towards success! This camp will prepare today’s teenager for the financial twists & turns of growing up in the 21st century. Campers will be introduced to career planning, personal budgeting, basic banking, how credit works, school loans, auto payments & auto insurance, all while utilizing Microsoft Excel. Campers will play simulation games based on real life financial situations and explore various on-line tools and websites to assist with their financial planning.

In this exciting workshop we will be developing basic interactive computer games with Macromedia Flash or GMAX, using animation and action scripting. Come join us for exciting rides on roller coasters, ferris wheels, carousels and more! During this camp students will explore the science of amusement park rides through hands- on activities. Teams of students will create their own working model ride while exploring the different areas of math, physics, history and creative writing. At the end of the week camper's families will be invited to see the model rides on display at our very own model theme park.

This workshop is designed for serious fans of the Discovery Channel's popular and exciting show MythBusters. Come learn how to separate truth from urban legend. We will use modern day science to show you what is real and what is fiction. Join us to create and implement various scientific experiments that test the validity of different phenomena. Kids will explore questions such as: Can you freeze a glass to the table during dinner? How far can you throw a curve ball? And can you take the salt out of salt water?

Join us gallant knights and fair maidens for a trip back in time! Through self-discovery and instructor-led, hands-on activities, we will explore and strive to understand the mathematics and physics of medieval warfare. Conduct historical research problem solve, and participate in interactive competitions. The result of this workshop will be sufficient understanding of castle and catapult design to compete in a simulation of medieval warfare.

The week will conclude with a "who-done-it" mystery where campers will become the detectives! Campers will conduct special exercises on the "power of observation and critical thinking."

Create! Build! Explore! Learn how science can be fun in our week-long hands-on science exploration. Our experiments will spark your child's interest in the sciences. Working in our state-of-the-art college labs, campers will investigate chemistry, biology, space science, robotics, computers, electricity, magnetism, plus many other areas. Learn how to turn a penny into gold, make plastic out of milk, and explore the properties of Oobleck. Students will even become "science detectives" by solving a crime using fingerprints, chromatography, and clues. These and many other topics will be covered.

Join us for a fun-filled week exploring the use of improvisational theater and acting games to help build your adolescent’s confidence and self-esteem. Drama is a wonderful tool for teaching social skills, body language and the mechanics of social interactions. Through games, skits and other fun activities, children will learn skills to help them navigate the complex social world of adolescence. If your child seems to struggle with social skills and peer relationships, then this camp is for you. Through acting and improv, we will explore and learn how to appropriately manage some of the issues that young teens face in their everyday life, as well as empower them with the knowledge and skills needed to make it through these fun, yet confusing teen years.
This camp is designed to assist teens with Asperger Syndrome, HFA, or other social learning deficits develop a better social understanding through the use of theater. The camp is being taught by a certified special education teacher who has more than five years of experience working with students on the autism spectrum.

Finding Your Future in…Veterinary Medicine and Careers in Animal Science

Do you love watching sports? How about becoming an athletic trainer where you can get paid to watch sports. Athletic training is an exciting and growing field with numerous opportunities of employment throughout the United States and internationally. Campers will learn what athletic trainers do in their everyday life from evaluation, medical documentation, treatment and rehabilitating athletes injuries to get them back into competition faster. Campers will also learn hands on techniques such as taping and wrapping body parts.

Sports Camps
All sports camp emphasize developing individual skills while learning team concepts. The camps include drills and small group games to help improve sports skills. Come and make new friends while enjoying recreational competition. All sports camps are taught by Penn State Abington’s athletic coaches and staff.

Each day, your child will receive instruction in the basic skills of basketball, as well as game tactics, 2 on 2, 3 on 3 and full court play, all delivered by Kathy Drysdale, head women’s basketball coach at Penn State Abington, and her staff. Coach Drysdale was the first women’s basketball player to score 1,000 points for the Lady Lions of University Park, and played professionally in Germany upon graduation from Penn State. She also worked for the Philadelphia 76ers in marketing and event management for 15 years.

Each day, your child will receive instruction in the basic skills of basketball, as well as game tactics, 2 on 2, 3 on 3 and full court play, all delivered by basketball coaching staff at Penn State Abington. The camp will be directed by former Penn State Abington basketball coach, Dick Wiseman. Coach Wiseman has 36 years of coaching experience at both the college and high school levels and is still actively coaching today. He also has over 25 years of basketball camp experience. Coach Wiseman's reputation as a teacher of the game of basketball and his emphasis on the execution the fundamental skills needed for success at all levels has always been a trademark of his teams.
Penn State Abington Soccer Academy (YTHPR 5096)

Each day, your child will receive instruction in the basic skills of soccer, as well as game tactics, small game and full field play, all delivered by David Castellanos, Head Men’s and Women’s Soccer Coach at Penn State Abington, and his staff. Coach Castellanos played for the two time NCAA national champion University of Connecticut Huskies and now plays for the Philadelphia Kixx.
