Project Management Certificate

Our Project Management Certificate is now being offered for credit! This is only for the cohort taking their first course in January 2012 and does not apply to those already enrolled in the certificate. To register for the program, you will need to fill out a non-degree application and mail your check in to the address listed on the form, or you can register by calling 215-881-7400 and we are happy to take your registration and payment information over the phone. Books are not included in the price. There is also an additional technology fee of $82 per semester.

The Project Management Certificate program is a structured series of courses designed to prepare students for careers in the planning and business fields. A Penn State certificate is awarded upon successful completion of the five required courses:

  • Project Costing and Control
  • Project Risk and Change Management
  • MS Project Overview

Course Descriptions
The following four courses must be taken in sequential order:

Project Initiation and Planning PJMGT 5000
This course introduces the student to the project management process; the role of the Project Manager; project communications, and project leadership. It begins the planning process covering topics such as the objectives, scope, and success criteria. This is the first of four courses required for the Certificate in Project Management.
Prerequisite: None
Credit: CEUs: 2.1

Project Scheduling and Integration PJMGT 5001A
This course continues to build upon the lessons learned in "Project Initiation and Planning". Content covers the work breakdown structure, project schedule, PERT/GANTT/CPM methods, and project integration. This is the second of four courses required for the Certificate in Project Management.
Prerequisite: Project Initiation and Planning (PJMGT 5000)
Credit: CEUs: 2.1

Project Costing and Control: PJMGT 5002
This course continues along the Project Cycle and introduces selection criteria, procurement, cost estimating, and control mechanisms are discussed here. This is the third of four courses required for the certificate in Project Management.
Prerequisite: Project Initiation & Planning; Project Scheduling.
Credit: CEUs: 2.1

Project Risk and Change Management: PJMGT 5003
This last course in the series introduces the student to risk and change management; team responsibilities; conflicts; quality; ethics; and closeout.
This is the last course required for the certificate in Project Management.
Prerequisite: Project Initiation & Planning; Project Scheduling; Project Costing & Control

MS Project Overview: CSE 6579
Companies large and small require project plans developed in MS Project to track the status of their projects. Learn the proper methods for using MS Project 2010. You will learn the #1 and #2 mistakes even seasoned users make. Explore how to build project plans properly for effective project management.
Understand the “Nine Steps to Effective Project Plans” and the “Seven Cardinal Rules of MS Project.

Project Management Professional (PMP)® Exam Preparation BUSAD 5518-906

The Project Management Professional (PMP)® Exam Preparation course is a three-week program designed for professionals who are experienced in project management or who have taken courses such as those in Penn State's Project Management Certificate Program. This course covers all "knowledge areas" and "process areas" of the Project Management Institute's (PMI)® Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide). It offers a review of the material normally covered in the exam, sample questions, and instruction on how best to prepare and study for taking the exam.  This course does not count towards the CEUs needed to maintain or obtain your PMP®.
