Description
This course provides the healthcare professional with an overview of current trends in healthcare emergency management. Topics of discussion will include: Hazard Vulnerability Analysis, Community Integration, Continuity of Operations, Emergency Operations Plan Development, Staff Education, Resource Development, Pandemic Planning and Regulatory Compliance. The program will feature a review of the 2009 H1N1 Influenza and lessons learned.
Topical Description
This course provides participants with an understanding of the modern security challenges faced by hospitals and healthcare facilities.
Specific topics will include:

Instructor
Edward J. Wurster, MS, CFO, MIFireE, is a twenty-four year veteran of the volunteer fire service in Pennsylvania and past Fire Chief, Edward Wurster and has made significant contributions to the education and training of public safety professionals globally.
As Chief Safety Officer of the Abington Township Fire Department, Edward has built safety and accountability programs that contribute to the strategic goals of the organization and provide enhancements to the welfare of emergency response personnel.
While serving as Director of Curriculum and Certification for the internationally accredited Bucks County Public Safety Training Center, Edward facilitated a high rate of program expansion for professionally recognized certification in fire and emergency services disciplines. This included the development and approval of a professional certification for Pennsylvania’s Special Fire Police. At the Bucks County Public Safety Training Center one of Edward’s most significant achievements was development of an Associate of Applied Science degree in Emergency Management. Edward was also instrumental in establishing strategic partnerships and programs with Fisher Scientific, Seoul Metropolitan Fire Academy, and the United States Postal Inspection Service.
Edward’s career includes extensive experience in healthcare emergency management and public safety, where he has developed training programs, policies, and procedures to support a number of regional healthcare organizations. He was recently employed as the Director of Public Safety for Abington Memorial Hospital, a regionally accredited trauma center.
A recognized leader in public safety education, Edward has delivered numerous presentations in Turkey, South Korea, Canada, and throughout the United States. He is an Adjunct Instructor for the Bucks County Community College, Montgomery County Fire Academy, Pennsylvania State University and is also a Pennsylvania State Fire Academy Local Level suppression instructor.
Edward holds a Master of Science degree in Public Safety from Saint Joseph’s University and numerous professional certifications in fire and emergency services. He is recognized by the Center for Public Safety Excellence as a Chief Fire Officer and is a member of the United States branch of the Institution of Fire Engineers. His accomplishments and contributions have been recognized by the Seoul Metropolitan Fire Academy, Township of Abington, and Roslyn Fire Company. Edward was also awarded a Congressional Certificate of Merit for outstanding contributions to the community.
