An Overview of the Business Planning and Credit Evaluation Process

Program Description

This three-hour intensive program will provide the participant with a comprehensive overview of the business planning and credit evaluation process. Learn how a business needs assessment, business plan, key concepts in credit evaluation fit together to provide a blue print for successful business planning.

The business needs assessment will cover topics such as: the scope of the business, determining who and where the business customers are, and how and why they purchase products or services. Representative business plan topics include: the importance of the executive summary, management profile, financing proposal, repayment plan, projections, collateral, and financial statements. Key concepts in credit evaluation include the capacity to borrow, capacity, collateral, and capital.

Instructor

William J. Fink, CPA, CSMC, serves as Senior Vice President and Senior Lending Officer for TD Bank’s Regional and Middle Market Commercial Lending Group. His responsibilities include development and expansion of the Bank’s $14+ billion Regional and Middle Market commercial loan portfolio. In this capacity, he works with TD’s Market Presidents, and structures and approves credit transactions for public corporations, family-owned businesses, and not-for-profit healthcare, philanthropic and social service organizations with annual revenue ranging from $10 million to $1 billion throughout Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Washington, DC and Florida.

Previously, Bill served as Senior Credit Officer for TD Bank’s Delaware, Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey markets and as a Senior Lender in the Pennsylvania Middle Market Lending Group. He has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, beginning his career at Continental Bank in Philadelphia. Bill has held senior lending and management positions during his career in Regional, Middle-Market and Corporate lending. In addition, he previously directed the business consulting practice of a regional CPA firm where he provided advisory services on corporate development, business reorganizations and benchmarking.

Bill earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration, with concentrations in Finance and Management, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing from St. Joseph’s University. He completed the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School’s Program on Mergers and Acquisitions and continuing education in the Master of Taxation Program at Villanova University School of Law.

Bill is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Specialist in Management Consulting and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants, Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Turnaround Management Association. He developed and teaches two programs for the University of Pennsylvania Wharton Small Business Development Center entitled “Strategic Accounting” and “Government-Sponsored Loan Programs.” He also teaches continuing professional education programs for attorneys and CPAs at Penn State University – Abington Campus. Bill has also served as a lecturer and student advisor on business planning and financing in the Entrepreneurial Training Institute sponsored by The New Jersey Development Authority for Small Business, Minorities and Women Enterprises, The Entrepreneur’s Forum of Philadelphia, and The Women’s Presidents’ Organization of Philadelphia.

Bill also provides community leadership and serves as a Board Member of the Advancement Committee for Mercy Vocational High School. He previously served as Treasurer of the Penn Mezzanine Fund and a member of its Board of Directors and Investment Committee. In addition to his teaching activities, he serves as a consultant to the Wharton Small Business Development Center.
