Popular Culture: Exploring Images of Language and Culture on Screen
This workshop uses materials from popular culture such as film, television, advertisements, and websites to explore the ways in which cultural identities are portrayed on screen. It will focus on how these images can be used in class activities to address issues such as stereotyping, attitudes toward accented speech, and cultural identity. Sample lessons for student media analyses will be provided.
