Gender Representations in Children’s Media
This workshop explores how gender roles are portrayed in media such as children’s books, greeting cards, and videos. Background information regarding how children develop schemas about appropriate gender role behavior, especially in terms of emotional display, coping styles, and agency will be clarified through small group hands on activities with the materials. Discussion will include the use of media for engaging students and shaping positive attitudes regarding agency and self-image for girls and boys.
