Children’s Literature: Blending Culture into the Curriculum
As educators we are natural facilitators of cultural awareness. This workshop stresses the importance of creating an inclusive classroom environment that respectfully celebrates diversity in natural ways and with fluidity. Ideas to be addressed are using Morning Meeting, calendar activities, story time, and other parts of the day to explore intercultural ideas. We will examine how the use of a Writer’s Notebook can be a powerful tool in enhancing intercultural expressiveness. In addition, we will explore ways to engage content area instruction as teachable moments for intercultural communication.
