Men's basketball wins PSUAC Championship
Penn State Abington's men's basketball team won the Penn State University Athletic Conference championship on Mar 8 defeating Penn State New Kensington 76-58 at the Bryce Jordan Center.
The win allowed Abington to bounce back from their loss to New Kensington earlier in the season. Ending the season with a record of 20-6 overall, the championship caps a remarkable second half of the season that saw Abington win 15 of their last 18 games, losing only once to a conference opponent.
The game also marked the end of Scott Brandt's (right) career; the senior leader played in four championship games in four years.
Penn State Abington names Deborah C. Andress as head lacrosse coach
Andress becomes the first head coach in the program’s history, as Penn State Abington announced the addition of the program earlier in January. Varsity play will begin in Spring 2009.
Andress brings an outstanding lacrosse background to the position. She has coached and/or played at nearly every level, from youth to national play. A former member of the United States Women’s Lacrosse Team Squad from 1980-1984, Andress also played for the Philly I and II club teams, perennial powerhouses in the sport. A graduate of Penn State, Andress played both field hockey and lacrosse for the Nittany Lions, and was a member of teams that won two AIAW National Championships during her tenure. She was inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. More ...

Penn State Abington Student Athletes Partner with 2007 Philadelphia Eagles at the Linc
Penn State Abington Athletics Director Karen Weaver has announced that Penn State Abington’s student athletes will be part of the stadium security force at every 2007 home Philadelphia Eagles game. Students from the suburban Philadelphia campus will join students from other area colleges and universities in this unique partnership.
Student athletes from the Abington softball, baseball and women’s basketball teams will ensure spectators have a safe experience when coming to Lincoln Financial Field through their work at the main gates. They may also be asked to escort members of the Eagles team and visiting team players within the stadium, as well as members of television and print media.
They were trained at Lincoln Financial Field on August 28. The Penn State Abington student athletes will “kick off” their security detail on Monday night, September 17 at 8:30 PM when the Eagles host the Washington Redskins.
At the Penn State Sports Banquet in May, Abington celebrated its first four-year letter winners: Chris Caine (bsk), Megan Barrows (tennis), Tom Ivers, Will van Sciver, Zack Walton and Mike Gilbert (all baseball).
Award winners below include Jackie Wise (Outstanding Athlete, tennis, with coach Bob Barton) and Zack Walton (Outstanding Athlete, baseball, with coach Dennis Weiner). Wes Olson Award winners Ashley Stegonshek (softball) and James Klotz (soccer) are pictured with Athletic Director Karen Weaver.

Penn State Abington's eleven varsity/club sports offer students four-year athletic competition in competitive team and individual sports. Penn State Abington competes in the Penn State University Athletic Conference and against area NCAA Division III colleges.
Penn State Abington Receives an "A" for Gender Equity in Athletics
Penn State Abington received national recognition in June from the Women’s Sports Foundation as the advocacy group awarded an “A” grade to the campus for its gender equity efforts in athletics.
Reviewing each institution’s Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act forms filed each year, the Women’s Sports Foundation graded every 2 year and 4 year college program in the country, using the letter grades A-F. Penn State Abington proudly shares this distinction with about 210 other colleges nationally, including such well know schools as Michigan State University and Purdue University.
“I give a tremendous amount of credit for this accomplishment to the campus administration,” said Athletics Director Karen Weaver. “Penn State Abington embraces the values that both gender equity and diversity bring to a campus.”
More information about the survey can be found on the Women’s Sports Foundation website, http://www.womenssportsfoundation.org/cgi-bin/iowa/issues/disc/reportcard.html.
