Penn State Abington hosts final home quad match of the 2008 season

Abington, PA – The Lady Lions of PS Abington hosted their last home match of the season against PS New Kensington, PS DuBois and Rutgers-Camden. They ended the day 2-1.
Their first match was against conference opponent Penn State New Kensington. PS Abington won the match 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-19. They received another solid performance from sophomore outside hitter Jessica Kane (John W. Hallahan / Philadelphia, PA). Kane had 10 kills out of her 23 attacks and 9 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Connell (Archbishop Wood / Horsham, PA) contributed 5 kills to go along with her career high 6 aces. Junior setter Megan Sawicki played consistently by dishing out 18 assists. Defensively sophomore libero Jennifer Lee led the way with a game high 11 digs.
In their second match they played PS DuBois. PS Abington won the game 3-2 (25-6, 23-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-6) after taking a tough PS DuBois team to 5 matches. PS Abington received great play from sophomore outside hitters Jessica Kane (John W. Hallahan / Philadelphia, PA) and Danielle Regan (St. Hubert’s / Philadelphia, PA). They totaled 22 kills, 12 and 10 respectively. Kane also had 6 aces and 16 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Connell (Archbishop Wood / Horsham, PA) had another solid performance with 9 kills, 3 aces and 9 digs. Junior setter Megan Sawicki (St. Hubert’s / Philadelphia, PA) continued her leadership on the court with 33 assists, 6 aces and 8 digs. Overall the team combined for a season high 36 kills, 25 aces and 58 digs.
The final match of the day was against Rutgers-Camden. PS Abington lost 0-3 (16-25, 24-26, 21-25). Nonetheless PS Abington still had a strong game from junior setter Megan Sawicki (St. Hubert’s / Philadelphia, PA). Sawicki led the team with 15 assists and 10 aces. Sophomore outside hitter Jessica Kane (John W. Hallahan / Philadelphia, PA) had a solid performance with 7 kills and 7 digs. While sophomore outside hitters Lauren Connell (Archbishop Wood / Horsham, PA) and Amanda Votta (Council Rock South / Holland, PA) each contributed 4 kills and 5 digs. Overall the team had a good defensive game combining for 32 digs.
