Women’s Volleyball starts the season off with a Quad Match

Abington, PA - The Women’s Volleyball team opened their season at home on Saturday with a quad match against Wesley College, Rosemont College and Rutgers-Camden. They wound up finishing the weekend 1-2 overall.

In their first match, against Wesley College, they came up short 0-3 (16-25, 17-25, 8-25). Despite the loss there still was solid play from sophomore Jessica Kane (John W. Hallahan / Philadelphia, PA) who led the Lady Lions of Abington with 5 kills and by sophomores Danielle Reagan (St. Hubert’s, PA / Philadelphia, PA) and Lauren Connell (Archbishop Wood / Hatboro, PA) who both had 4 kills. Junior Megan Sawicki (St. Hubert’s / Abington, PA) gave a solid performance with 12 assists and 2 service aces.

In their second match, the Lady Lions rebounded well from their loss to Wesley. They faced Rosemont College and picked up their first win of the season, 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-12). They were led by sophomore Jessica Kane (John W. Hallahan / Philadephia, PA) who had 12 kills, two aces and 5 digs. Sophomores Danielle Regan (St. Hubert’s / Philadephia, PA) and Lauren Connell (Archbishop Wood / Hatboro, PA) both served the ball extremely well with 7 and 6 aces, respectively. Connell also added 7 digs. Sophomore Jennifer Lee (Cliffside (NJ) / Cliffside Park, NJ) had a strong showing with 6 digs. As a team they combined for a total of 26 kills and 16 aces.

The last match for the Lady Lions was against Rutgers-Camden. During this match they took the Scarlet Raptors to 4 sets where they wound up losing 1-3 (19-25, 25-19, 22-25, 17-25). Putting in another strong performance of the weekend for the Lady Lions was sophomore Jessica Kane (John W. Hallahan / Philadelphia, PA) who had 11 kills, 3 service aces and 5 digs. Junior Megan Sawicki (St. Hubert’s / Abington, PA) had another strong match with 18 assists and a team leading 16 digs. Sophomore Lauren Connell (Archbishop Wood / Hatboro, PA) had 7 kills, 3 aces and 15 digs. It was another strong defensive showing for the Lady Lions where as a team they had 56 kills.
